The University of Central Florida is now ranked the second largest university in the country, supporting the intellectual development of an estimated 11,000 – 14,500 Catholic students. Statistics suggest that upon graduation, fewer than half of these young Catholics will still be active in their faith.
From the perspective of the Church, at no other period during the faith journey continuum of its members will the Church experience such a significant loss of its faithful, nor such a significant opportunity to reconstruct the foundation for life-long faith practice.
In December of 2013, a Kairos moment was inaugurated for Catholic Campus Ministry at UCF as we opened the doors to our new Catholic Center at NorthView, a 20,000 square foot ministry center, allowing the Church to provide on-campus resources to keep the faith alive in the hearts and minds of students, as well as the entire university Catholic community. At the Catholic Center, students, faculty, staff and administrators find welcoming fellowship and spiritual support, and a wealth of opportunities and resources to shape their intellectual growth in the context of a life-affirming faith. Here Catholic Campus Ministry seeks to complement the secular education provided by the University by contributing an education in Catholic ways of life, prayer, worship, faith, holiness, truth beauty and goodness.
